CMS Advances Virtual Care, Digital Health Coverage in Proposed 2025 PFS (Source: Health Leaders Media) Healthcare providers will have more opportunities to receive Medicare reimbursements for digital health and virtual care programs under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ proposed 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Administration Launching Multistate Licensure Compact (Source: Healthcare Finance News) In a bid to streamline licensure, this week the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Health Resources and Services Administration(HRSA), announced the first-ever Licensure Portability Grant Program investment in a multistate social worker licensure compact.

Ethical Considerations When Providing Virtual Care (Source: mHealth Intelligence) Virtual care, which encompasses telehealth, remote patient monitoring (RPM), and more, has the potential to curb numerous barriers to healthcare. Virtual care services can increase healthcare access, enhance patient outcomes, and boost patient and provider satisfaction. However, for virtual care to achieve its full potential, healthcare providers must consider the ethical factors governing its use.

The Cost of Congress' Telehealth Waffling (Source: Politico) Congress is taking its time to decide whether Medicare should permanently pay for telehealth. The Bipartisan Policy Center says that’s a mistake. The think tank’s new policy report advises legislators to adopt a long-term Medicare reimbursement strategythat gives providers reason to invest in the service.

OHSU Study: Telehealth Builds Autonomy, Trust in Treating Addiction (Source: OHSU News) Even as the nation’s opioid epidemic continues to ravage families and communities nationwide — with more than 100,000 Americans dying of drug overdoses each year — stigma remains a barrier for many people accessing treatment for addiction. A new study from Oregon Health & Science University suggests telehealth may be an important antidote to overcoming stigma and reducing barriers for people seeking out the treatment they need.

On July 10, 2024, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released their proposed Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) for CY 2025. The Center for Connected Health Policy (CCHP) released an in-depth writeup outlining the telehealth-related items proposed in the PFS. For more on the proposals for institutions, see the full text of the rule, and see CCHP’s factsheet and the full text of the CY 2025 PFS rule for all of the PFS details. In addition to the PFS fact sheet, CCHP has created a short video to discuss these proposals.
